The Spectrum Management Authority (SMA) has advised that it will be auctioning the 2.5GHz spectrum band. An Information memorandum which describes that packaging of the spectrum to be licensed, summarizes the terms and conditions of the licence to be granted and the qualification requirements to participate in the bidding process may be downloaded from the SMA’s website www.sma.gov.jm or by clicking this link>>. Interested parties have until July 14, 2008 to submit questions.
The Broadcasting Commission (BC) is currently inviting applications from companies that want to provide island-wide subscriber television service using wireless technology. Successful licensees will have the option of utilizing a maximum of 65MHz within the range of 2500 MHz - 2690 MHz or a maximum of 66 MHz within the range of 506 - 698 MHz in the UHF band. Applications may be obtained from the BC website www.broadcastingcommission.org/calfapp.htm.
The deadline for submission is 2.00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2008.
The BC has invited relevant stakeholders to submit their comments on digital switchover as it furthers its consultation process in furtherance of a national policy on the switchover from analogue to digital signals. J Paul Morgan the Director General of the Office of Utilities Regulation has resigned. The Government is in the process of recruiting a successor.
